What is a good life for families?
And how do we get there?

Coronavirus (COVID 19) update

We have made the decision to postpone the AIFS 2020 Conference. This is in line with the Government’s advice that non-essential gatherings of 500 people or more should not take place.

We are investigating rescheduling the AIFS Conference towards the end of 2020. We are not able to confirm these dates as yet, as this is a rapidly developing situation. We will keep delegates, speakers and sponsors informed as we firm up our new plans. Until then, we will suspend new registrations.

Once we have confirmed the new dates, we will contact delegates who have already registered. They will be offered the choice to carry their existing registration forward to the new dates, or offered a refund if they are unable to commit to the new dates.

While we are very disappointed, the decision to postpone is to necessary for the protection of the community and to help reduce transmission of the virus. This is especially important given predictions that the pandemic will peak in Australia in winter. We all need to pull together at this difficult time and help ‘flatten the curve’.

Once this period of caution and containment is over, we sincerely hope you can join us at our rescheduled conference. More than ever, the pandemic shows us how central families are to the care of children, our elders and our communities. Recent community challenges give added urgency to the bold conversations at the AIFS Conference about how families can be supported by better policies and service systems in a rapidly changing world.

For more information on the virus and the steps that can be taken to minimise its impact, visit the Australian Government Department of Health website.

More than just a conference

The AIFS 2020 Conference will be more than just another conference – it will be an event that showcases and shares research, is a catalyst for national conversations, and charts a course for the wellbeing of families towards 2050.

In the Institute’s 40th anniversary year, the 2020 Conference will bring together key policy makers, practitioners, researchers and thought leaders, across sectors and jurisdictions, to explore how policies and service systems can better support families to achieve their aspirations and flourish in a rapidly changing world.

The diverse conference program will facilitate opportunities for audience engagement, debate and inquiry to enable genuine collaborative discussion. Formats in the program will include workshops, fireside chats, roundtable discussions, panel sessions, evaluation snapshots, e-poster presentations and symposia to generate conversations with impact.
